New environmentally clean and economically efficient technological system of creating a vacuum in rectification columns was introduced on the cmde vacuum column BK-I of Atmospheric-vacuum fractionation unit AVT-3 at Moscow oil refinery in 1993. It works on the basis of vacuum device VHC-140-0.4 developed by Technovacuum Research and Production Association. Later on it was applied to other creating atmospheric-vacuum fractioation unit such as AVT-3, AVT-6 at the number of plants in FSU countries and replaced traditionally used steam ejectors. General diagram of a vacuum hydro-circulation unit is shown below:

The liquid-vapor jet unit I manifolds vapor and cracking gases from the top of the column and creates a vacuum. The working liquid (vacuum gas oil or diesel fuel) injected into the jet unit, moves in circuit: jet unit I, flash drum 2, heater exchange 3, pump 4, jet unit 1. Flash drum is used for separating of gases from working liquid. The pump creates essential pressure. The heater exchange takes away excessive heat duty created by energy dissipation in circuit. New vacuum creating system allows:

  • to create deep vacuum (up to 10 mm HgA ) and provide its smooth regulation.
  • to make the process of rectification environmentally friendly: it rules out bringing the steam into the column and vacuum creating system.
  • to reduce energy consumption for creating vacuum : it does not require steam and large amount of supplementary equipment.
  • to reduce operating costs by minimizing of supplementary equipment including for water purification.
  • to give a deep cut crude oil processing by increasing output of products of vacuum distillation and to rule out any loss of petroleum products with steam condensat.

The economic effect of introduction of new vacuum creating system instead of steam ejectors is 750000 - 1000000 $ per year. The best economic effect is achieved by low hydraulic pressure drop of vacuum tower internals.
